We are Jon, Elise, Elliot, Samuel and Bow Fletcher, a family from Shrewsbury in Shropshire where we had put down deep roots over twenty years! All five of us share a love of Narnia, notebooks, peanut butter, and dogs. Jon and Elise have been married for 13 years and both graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2006 (where Jon studied Medicine and Elise studied English Literature).
Jon went on to train as a GP and worked for 8 years in the Shrewsbury area. Elise had worked with Youth For Christ and in other youth and childrens’ work roles. We are part of Shrewsbury Baptist Church, a wonderful outward looking community where we have felt loved and nurtured over many years.
As a family, we moved to Bangkok in 2014 as we felt called to stand with the poor in the way we see modelled beautifully in Jesus. Engaging with the facts about wealth inequality had quickly led us to identify with the massive problem of urban poverty. Currently one person in every seven of the world’s population lives in a slum. It is projected that by 2050 this figure could rise to half the world’s population. While we don’t have all the answers to this problem, we have followed the call to be present with our neighbours in solidarity and care. Bow joined our family through adoption in 2019.
Just wondering if you sold everything on saturday
We sold a fair bit but a lot of the stuff has gone to the Ark charity shop in Shrewsbury. Thanks for asking!
